More than 50 of the Best Home Inspection Blogs

THE BEST HOME INSPECTION

Whether you’re buying a home, a home owner looking to evaluate your homes condition, selling a home, or a home inspector yourself, there’s probably a blog or two on this list for you. Some are geared towards first-time home buyers, others provide general home inspection information, and more than a handful of them are geared towards home inspectors themselves.

What makes a good home inspection blog?

In creating this list, which I believe is the definitive list of important home inspection blogs, I tried to look beyond the asthetics of the websites to see what value they brought to the reader. It’s not really a secret that most home inspector’s have pretty dismal website designs, afterall most home inspectors come from construction backgrounds or some area of home services, not design or technology backgrounds. I’m probably the rate exception to that generalization, since I have 2 degrees in technology related fields. So, while I didn’t discredit any website just for looking terrible, I also didn’t refrain from commenting about it. I do have my own preferences when it comes to what a website should be, but I also know that the most important aspect is whether it serves it’s purpose for the audience and the website that wrote it.

When considering websites for inclusion on this list, what I was looking for, primarily was the quality of the content and the presentation of that information. I looked at more than 200 home inspector websites and websites serving the home inspection community, to come up with a list of 50+ blogs that you should be reading. While going through all of those websites, I asked myself two questions… First, does this website have a blog? While I came across many great examples of websites for home inspection, they didn’t all maintain blogs. But, I wanted this to be a list of websites where you could find current, relevant information. So, I only included websites that maintained active blogs or news pages. The second question, I asked was “Is the content presented valuable to someone looking for a home inspection or to someone that is a home inspector?”. I had a pretty lenient definition of what a blog was (it could be an article page, an updated list of tips, a news section, or an actual blog), so that latter question was my primary consideration when compiling this list of the Best Home Inspection Blogs. To that end, this list is full of shining examples of blogs in the home inspection industry.

The sites included on this list are all great in their own regard, either as resources to the home buyer or to home inspectors. They each have something they can teach us. Some are amazing examples of design, serving as beacons to other home inspectors as to what an attractive website should be. Other’s provide examples of topics missed and forgotten by most inspectors and real estate agents. A few are rather unique in their approach. Most all of them are incredible examples of what quality content in the home inspection industry. We can look to them for inspiration and factual information. When it comes to knowledge about home maintenance, home buying, and home inspection, itself, there is far more to learn than any one blog covers. A good blog should be easy to read, informative, and have timely valuable information. With that said, here is my list. (In no particular order.)

More than 50 Home Inspection Blogs: These Are The Ones You Should Be Reading

  1. A Buyers Choice Blog
I like that along with the normal topics you’d expect to find on a home inspector blog, such as common problems with skylights or common venting issues as a national company they take the time to introduce individual inspectors in each of their service areas giving it a more personal touch. Instead of a generic website, you get to meet individual inspectors, like Heather Wood of Ontario or Colin Kuntz of Alberta.
  2. Structure Tech’s Blog
Their blog is broke down into topics and issues rather than stories, which means it’s fact focused. So if you’re looking for information without the look at everything we found, you’ll appreciate the simplicity of the Structure Tech Blog. They cover topics ranging from Garbage Disposal Myths to questions about cracks in desk posts. A lot of what they cover deals with cold weather issues, but that’s probably because they are based in Minnesota. Known for its in-depth technical analysis, the StructureTech Blog tackles complex topics like HVAC systems, moisture issues, and foundation concerns. It’s a go-to resource for those who want to understand the nitty-gritty of home inspections.
  3. Shield Guard Inspections Blog
This New York based home inspector has original content, rather than generic sometimes pointing right to issues he encountered during inspections. From A Radon Mystery he Uncovered in Nassau, NY  to Sap Appearing on Attic Beams, Adam likes to investigate. While his website is simple and lacks the polished design of others, I believe an inquisitive inspector is a better inspector.
  4. Top to Bottom Services
This is an attractive blog that posts consistently (about two articles a month) on topics that often cover ancillary services such as termite testing, water testing, and radon testing, so you’ll get information about all those add-on services that home inspectors want you to add on to the standard inspection. Plus, the former web designer in me appreciates that the blog loads fast.
  5. SiR, Inc. Blog
The font’s chosen and the background on this site are probably more fitting for a bail bondsman than a home inspector, but the content itself is fitting for a Georgia based Home Inspector. You just have to overlook the prison wall design, if you want to read more about Stucco than any inspector should know. If you’re looking for information specifically on Stucco this website has probably covered it, but I’m not really sure if this site is for a home inspector or Stucco contractor. Either way, I included it on this list, because home inspectors often do have questions telling different stucco applications apart. That’s why InterNACHI even has a chart.
  6. The Skeleton Key Blog
This blog is a good example of how a home inspector blog can be simple and clean and yet also attractive. It covers the gambit of topics I’d expect a home inspector to be knowledgeable on, including HVAC systems and Dry Rot. The only thing I really have to complain about is that the blog seems to use a lot of stock photos, rather than original photos of the inspectors experience in the field.
  7. Calgary Home Inspector Blog
This blog has great content for home buyers in Canada, covering basics like Do Home Inspectdors Kill Deals to the Alberta Building Code. But, the one thing that is driving me crazy about this blog is that they forget to upload cover photos on many of their posts. Still, it’s a good example of how a home inspector can use articles to drive traffic locally, with articles that feature the towns name, like this article about Home Inspections in Cheestermere
  8. Bold City Home Inspection Blog
It irritates me that the URL isn’t /blog/ or /news/ but, I guess some people can’t help themselves when it comes to keyword stuffing for SEO reasons. In anycase, the content on this blog is actually pretty good. Answering everything from How Long Do Asphalt Shingles Last to How to Determine the Age of Your Appliances, makes this a useful blog for homeowners.
  9. Inside View Inspections
Inside View Inspections provides a behind-the-scenes look at the home inspection process, offering readers practical advice and insights. From tips on choosing an inspector to maintaining your property, this blog is perfect for anyone seeking clarity on inspections. It suffers from the use of generic photos, but the information found on it is credible.
  10. Big Ben’s Home Maintenance Blog
I’d feel terrible if I didn’t include Big Ben’s Home Maintenance Blog on this list since, Ben Gromicko is the guy that trained not only me, but most of the home inspectors working today so here it is. Because he heads up InterNACHI, the most important organization in home inspection, you know that all the information on his blog is authoritative. Rather than teaching fellow inspectors, here he combines actionable maintenance tips with inspection insights. From seasonal checklists to DIY repair guidance, it’s a fantastic resource for homeowners.
  11. Upchurch Inspection’s Blog
I probably should have left my own blog off this list, in the name of fairness, but the truth is there aren’t very many “good” blogs in the home inspector world. It was a struggle to find high quality blogs to fill this massive list of more than 50 good ones. So, I felt that if a few stinkers could make the list, mine definitely deserved to, since it’s a league ahead of most. This Memphis-based blog offers valuable local expertise, covering inspection trends, common findings, and preparation tips. My blog is ideal for buyers and sellers in the Memphis area.
  12. Spectora’s Blog
Spectora’s Blog stands out for its focus on innovative tools and technologies in the inspection industry. From drones to thermal imaging, it’s a must-read for tech-savvy inspectors and curious homeowners. This blog comes from the makers of Spectora Software, which is the Software every serious home inspector should be using, but they don’t limit their posts to self-promotional content. They have quite a few ideas for home inspectors to improve their marketing and online presence.
  13. Safe Home Inspection
One of the main reasons to hire a home inspector is to ensure your home is safe. That is why my own slogan is “Home Safety Matters”. So, you know when I ran accross a blog that is focusing not just on safety hazards like mold and radon, but also on safet practices for conducting home inspections, I would have to include it on this list. Safe Home Inspection educates readers on protecting their homes and families. And it is a resource for home inspectors on staying safe in the field, thus provides valuable content that many others miss.
  14. The Inspector Pro Blog
Designed for industry professionals, The Inspector Pro Blog covers risk management, liability, and best practices. Homeowners can also benefit from its insights into the inspection process. But, because it comes from one of the largest insurers of home inspection companies, they do know a thing or two abut risk management.
  15. The Home Inspection Blog
This blog calls itself The Home Inspection Blog, and probably for good reason, since it offers comprehensive advice on topics ranging from plumbing systems to roofing maintenance. Although it’s a relatively new blog, it’s already establishing itself as an excellent resource for homeowners and professionals alike. It doesn’t have a massive archive of past articles, but they post regularly, so I think given a little more time it will become a treasure trove of information.
  16. Inside and Out Inspections
Except for that obnoxious Free Quote button pushing you to buy their services, that stays at the top of the page even when you scroll down, the Inside and Out Inspections blog does a good job balancing topics dealing with both exterior and interior property care. Its posts cover curb appeal and livability as well as structural integrity, and preparation for inspections, making it a well-rounded resource. They could probably do away with the comment count on the articles though, since there doesn’t appear to be much engagement from readers.
  17. The Home Inspection Site
This is a underated blog providing educational content on pre-listing inspections, environmental hazards, and common inspection red flags. It’s a valuable guide for real estate agents and homeowners, without trying to sell you anything. Where other sites have something to sell you, this one just provides information, without any advertising or push to buy their service. Sites like that tend to be more reliable, since they have nothing to gain or lose.
  18. Elite Group Property Inspections Blog
This blog might have thing for cute clip part in their post headers, but that doesn’t mean the blog isn’t serious. The Elite Group Property Inspections Blog covers topoics specific to California and combines professional insights with practical homeowner advice. It covers subjects like maximizing your real estate investments, in addition to the usual stuff home inspectors post about inspection findings.
  19. House Master Blog
While The House Master Blog dives into the intricacies of home ownership and maintenance, offering insights that extend beyond inspections, much of their reason content seems focused on targeting new home owners. That’s not a bad thing, a home inspector that can guide a new homeowner as to the functionality and maintence of their home plays a valuable role.  Their content is both informative and accessible.
  20. Axium Inspections Blog
When I loaded up this blog, the first thing I saw was a dumpster. It made me realize that there are a lot of aspects of home investment that home inspectors forget to address on their blogs. A lot of home buyers buy to fix and flip, so why not give them practicle advice about the things they’d need to gut the home and redo it. Not every home is prestine, quite a few are fixer-uppers. I think this is why this blog covers a lot of issues that deal with home renovations, like identifying asbestos, and hiring handyman services. Axium Inspections Blog focuses on creating a seamless inspection process for homeowners and buyers. It provides practical advice and tips for making inspections stress-free.
  21. ASHI Reporter
As an InterNACHI member, I’m a bit biased, when it comes to which organization’s news stories I tend to follow, but I still can’t ignore the American Society of Home Inspectors’ blog. Even if I think that organization is dated and doesn’t do enough to help the industry, the blog still serves as a professional resource filled with industry news, inspection tips, and regulatory updates, making it ideal for inspectors looking to stay current.
  22. Redefine Inspections Blog
Redefine Inspections Blog highlights the latest trends in inspections and provides helpful tips for homeowners and industry professionals alike.
  23. Golden Gate Home Inspections Blog
If you’re in San Fransico, California this is one home inspection blog you should check out. They cover topics specific to West Coast living, like California’s home insurance landscape, as well as all the usual topics you’d want from your home inspector, including things like moisture intrustion and sewer inspection.
  24. National Property Inspections Blog
NPI’s blog is a versatile resource, offering insights into inspection processes, seasonal maintenance, and home safety. It’s a favorite for buyers, sellers, and agents.
  25. JMark Inspections Blog
This Houston Texas based home inspector seems to prefer bright red headings over images (at least when it comes to the blog), but the content is sound and focused on the needs of clients.
  26. Pillar To Post Blog
Pillar To Post’s blog covers all aspects of home inspections, from what to expect during the process to how to maintain a home’s value. Their detailed posts are ideal for first-time buyers.
  27. Hardy Boys Inspection Service Blog
I appreciate that most of their blog posts have a unified look and appeal, there is consistency when it comes to the graphic style used as headers. However, it looks like they haven’t posted in a few years. Still, they’ve covered many of the basic questions people have when hiring a home inspector.
  28. Habitat Inspections Blog
Habitat Inspections Blog emphasizes sustainable and eco-friendly practices in home inspections. Their posts are a great resource for environmentally conscious homeowners.
  29. Valler Home Inspections Blog
Another example of a functional home inspector blog, Valler Home Inspections is pretty basic when it comes to asthetics, but they do touch on topics most home inspectors don’t think about, like how to keep Mosquitoes off your property and disadvantages to buying your home in the winter time.
  30. AmeriSpec Blog
I think the most annoying thing about this blog is that the content doesn’t benefit home buyers, the actual clients in home inspection business. Rather, the target audience is real estate agents. I get it, a home inspection company wants friends in the real estate world, as agents provide the best referrals. But, with aticles like 5 Reasons Why AmeriSpec is the Hassle Free Closing Partner for Realtors you have to wonder who’s interest the company has in mind. The home inspectors role is not to ensure the property sells, it’s to report facts and findings. Still, I would imagine that if I was a realtor that I would want content that I can relate to, which this blog provides.
  31. Kissee Inspections
I find it rather strange that this websites logo disappears on smaller screens (I’m viewing on a tablet.), so they might want to contact their designer. Yet, I still included this home inspection company on my list, because the content is actually pretty good and it is regularly updated. Those are both important things, when it comes to having a blog people want to read.
  32. Buell Inspections Blog
While his blog is outdated and not the easiest to navigate, his information is very helpful. Charles Buell takes a very technical and educational approach to his blogs, which can really inform you about the workings of your home.
  33. Inside and Out Property Inspections Blog
This blogs approach has always been towards homebuyers or sellers rather than the technical approaches noted above, which is what makes sense to me, since those are the home inspectors clients. This blog, like another I noted in the list could do away with the comment count, since readers of home inspection blogs are mainly looking for information, not to engage in discussions. (That’s why most of the articles say 0 Comments).
  34. HomeInspectology
HomeInspectology itself is a website packed full of resources for the home inspector community. They have information on everything from software to insurance and tools and services. This is a great resource for any home inspector, however the site design is rather horrendous. We’ll forgive them for for having way to many menu items, with home inspection in front of every useful word (like software, websites, tools, and training) because it is a valuable resource site. As for the blog it full of useful information for anyone in the business. It just needs some images and a way to navigate categories to be top-tier.
  35. Inspector Toolbelt Blog
Another home inspection software company makes the list, because your software provider can be one of your best resources as a home inspector. Answering questions such as “Is the client always right?” and what you should do if you’re asked to fix something, show that they care about more than just selling software – they care about the industry.
  36. Top Flight Blog
This is a blog that isn’t well maintained (there has only been one post since 2021), but I like the design and layout. Shannon writes (maybe wrote would be more accurate) about real estate trends almost as much as home inspection itself, but I suppose if you’re in the market to buy a home that’s not a bad thing. I would say, the blog would benefit if the actual home inspector, Greg, did some of the writing.
  37. Hit-it Blog
I’m not really sure how much respect a credential from a school called “Hit-it” would be or why you’d pay someone for InterNACHI certification, when InterNACHI makes all their courses and certification available free to it’s Members for that matter, but I guess some people benefit from hands-on training. In anycase, they do have beginning of a quality blog (can’t say the same for the rest of the site). The blog is actually pretty good, tackling things that are useful for home inspectors, like legal and ethical considerations and growing a home inspection business. It does suffer from a general lack of posts, but the content that is there is pretty good.
  38. HomeGauage’s Learning
HomeGauge is the other major Home Inspection software company, so we can expect them to provide some insight into the business side of home inspections. Their blog looks amazing (at least on computer, it’s a little less navigation friendly on smaller devices), and covers marketing a home inspection business, building local authority, and industry trends.
  39. RJs Home Inspection Blog
Design wise, this might be my favorite home inspection blog. From dates overlaying the thumbnails to beautiful fonts and large attractive read more buttons, it just gives the impression of professionalism. Everything about this blog for a Boston home inspector is done right and that is why it is on this list.
  40. Full View Home Inspection Blog
This is a company that designs websites for home inspectors, but you can get a lot of ideas and inspiration from their blog, which showcases their work and answers questions you may have about your own website, such as Should You Have a Photo of You on Your Website?
  41. InterNACHI News
Members of InterNACHI, the industry’s best association, will want to follow this page to stay up to date with course approvals and meetings. While I would like to see InterNACHI publish more general news about the home inspection industry and maintain a public blog, most of InterNACHI’s best content is available only to members,
  42. Inspector Media Tips & Tricks
This blog is all about how home inspectors can use digital marketing to grow their business. It covers topics such as using social media to connect with realtors and creating your home inspection Facebook page
  43. Tap Inspect Blog
While most of this companies posts seem geered towards marketing their home inspection software or using it, there’s some great posts providing general advice as well, such as one reminding inspectors to use orientation shots (so it’s easy to tell where the defect is), like an establishing shot in a film. And they have a useful section covering events in the home inspection industry, such as conventions.
  44. The Home Inspectors TX
It seems like a good idea to highlight area realtors, but I’m not so sure about calling them your “partners”. That might be a conflict of interest to partner up with them, when you’re supposed to serve the interests of your clients. In anycase, this is an attractive blog. I like how they have downloadable resources listed right alongside the standard posts.
  45. GGR Home Inspections
At first, I was going to mention the lack spacing between photos in the recent posts lists and inconsistent use of CSS to round the corners of images, but actually the weirdest part of this website’s blog is the disclaimer that they promote affiliate links and prioritize showing products that pay the most. That may or may not be be an ethical concern, but it does seem odd. I think I’d rather my home inspector give unbiased opinions about system components. Regardless, the website has a lot of relevant content broken into appropriate categories.
  46. West Inspect Blog
I find it rather interesting that a home inspector would focus mainly on home maintence, for their blogging efforts as that seems to benefit the home owner more than the home buyer, but that’s what Shay at West Inspect is doing. Maybe he’s thinking long term. And that’s something we should all be doing.
  47. Kelleher Home Inspection Blog
A home inspection blog that is simple and to the point, yet effective. They seem to have a community focus, tagging “Community” as a category on almost every post, even if it doesn’t really have content specific to the community they serve. I don’t quite understand that, but I guess they’re big on community. They probably could have just tagged Las Vegas and gotten more play from the SEO Gods, but who am I to judge?
  48. ATS Home Inspections Blog
Another blog that could benefit from thumbnails Yes, content is king, but it doesn’t hurt to also be visually appealing. In ancase, this Arizona home inspector answers the questions I would expect to have answered if I was shopping for a home inspector and is an overall good example of what a blog on a home inspection site should look like.
  49. Wilson Home Inspections
This is my only direct competitor on this list (at least that isn’t a franchise or national company), but I had to include them because the blog is well written. Colin is a well-qualified inspector with more than a decade of construction experience. I can’t really knock his blog, as it serves it’s purpose, except to say it does suffer from a lack of recent content.
  50. Bryan & Bryan Inspections
This website looks pretty good and uses mobile friendly features such as endless scrolling, giving it a very modern field. Plus, they post a lot. That’s a good thing. It means there’s a ton of content to go through and take in. It’s also categorized nicely.
  51. EZ Home Inspection Blog
Another home inspection software company blog made the list. It seems to me that they shouldn’t have to target local keywords, as most inspectors do, but they do have articles like how to become a home inspector in Georgia or New York. Still, I’ll overlook that for great articles about generating more leads and the best home inspector tools.

Well, That’s It For Now: That list was massive!

Wow! You mad it to the end. Hopefully, you found content that was helpful as a homeowner, home buyer, or fellow home inspector. I know, that list was massive, but it’s not even finished yet. As, I continue to browse the web and search out the best home inspection blogs, I’ll keep updating this list revising it as necessary or adding to it. This is already the biggest list of the very best in home inspection blogs, but it can keep getting bigger and better. So, if you know a site I missed or need to take a look at email me at wes@upchurchinspection.com and I’ll take a look to see if I find it worth adding.
